Industri Animasi Tempatan berkembang.

Local animation products expected to rake in RM1b this year

JOHOR BARU: The turnover for the local animation and cartoon products is expected to reach RM1bil this year.

He said high quality with low production costs have led the Malaysian-made animations to receive good response from overseas countries especially China.

He said of the about 200 companies in the local animation industry, half have gone global.

He said China especially, was looking into outsourcing the production of animation videos to Malaysia.

"We are now promoting the Malaysian-made films, animation products and videogames,'' he said.

"Some China companies have come to see what we can do for them. Compared to Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan, the cost here is cheaper,'' he said.

He said the animation and cartoon industry has a very big market as they could be dubbed into any language.

"Lat’s cartoon, for example, has made it to (South) Korean television,'' he told reporters after opening the MCA's ICT Resource Centre (MIRC) SMB ICT Roadshow here Thursday.
